Discussion Meetings

League members educate ourselves and the community on timely issues through discussion meetings usually held four times per year in members’ homes. Topics are selected based on state and national League priorities and from input from members at the Annual Meeting.

Presenters often give us a copy of their slide presentations. You can go to the Document Library to review slides from past meetings.

Saturday, November 16, 10:15 - 11:45, Discussion Meeting: LWV Study of the Federal Judiciary

The November 16 meeting will be held in the Harris County Pct. 2 Clear lake ActivitiesCenter (5001 NAS Road One) and will feature a review of the LWV study of the federal judiciary. The study will engage legal and academic experts to help clarify judicial accountability, the role of rule of law, and safeguarding judicial independence.

The October 5 meeting featured a review by LWV-BA Program Chair Diane Sheridan of how the Electoral College works and its origins and an introduction to the League's moonshot goal to eliminate it.

The October VOTER contains more detailed information about the November meeting as well as a report of the information presented at the well-attended Electoral College meeting. You can view the Electoral Slide  presentation HERE.
