Register to Vote in Harris or Galveston County


First time voters - and any voters new to Harris or Galveston County - must submit a signed, paper application to register to vote at least a month before Election Day.

NEW VOTER REGISTRATION 

  • To register to vote, you must:
  • Be a United States citizen and a resident of the county where you submit the application
  • Be 18 years of age by Election Day (you can register up to two months before your 18th birthday)
  • Not be a convicted felon who is on probation, parole, or incarcerated. (You may re-register to vote once you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole.)
  • Not be mentally incapacitated by a court of law.
  • For more information, see VoteTexas.gov from the Secretary of State.
  • Texas does not have online registration.
  • Paper Registration
  • You can pick up a voter registration form at many libraries, post offices, county courthouses and other public buildings. Fill it out and mail it in.
  • If you have a printer
  • Go to the Texas Secretary of State website, fill out the form, print it, sign and mail.
  • If you do not have a printer
  • Go to Register2vote.org, fill out the form and it will be mailed to you to review, sign and mail.
  • Contact voterservice@lwvbayareatx.org and one of our Volunteer Deputy Registrars will personally help you get registered in your county.

UPDATING YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION 

  • If you need to update your name or address but still reside in the same county:
  • You may update your voter registration online, OR
  • You may correct your information on the back of your voter card and mail it back to your county's Voter Registrar, OR
  • You may follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form checking the change of address or name option.
  • If you have moved from one Texas county to another:
  • You may now update your driver's license and voter registration online at the same time, OR
  • You may follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form checking the change of address or name option.
  • If you have moved to Texas, welcome! Follow the steps above to submit a new voter registration form.


Volunteer – Help others get Registered!


You can help your neighbors get registered to vote by becoming a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar (VDVR) in your county and/or other Texas counties. You can join the LWV-Bay Area voter registration team and really make a difference.
