Dates and Checklist

Get ready to vote in the upcoming election by following this 5-Step checklist:

1.
Voter registration active?
2. Got Photo ID?

3.
Vote in person or by mail?
4. Research your ballot.
5. Ask for assistance.

VOTER REGISTRATION ACTIVE?

  • All new registrations or updates – name change, new address – must be completed 30 days before an election.
  • To confirm your registration, go to the Texas Secretary of State’s Am I Registered? Tool.
  • If you aren’t listed as active, you are not registered. Please register! See Voter Registration.
  • If you need to make voter name and address corrections within the same county as your current registration, you can do so online HERE.
  • If you need to make any other corrections, you must submit a new voter registration application. See Voter Registration.
  • For more information go to Harrisvotes.org or Galvestonvotes.org.

GOT PHOTO ID?

  • You will need photo identification to vote in person at the polls or to submit an absentee ballot in person.
  • Texas requires voters to use one of 7 forms of photo ID.
  • More information on photo ID can be found at LWV-Texas - Voter ID.

VOTE IN PERSON OR BY MAIL

  • If you will be voting in person, make a plan and put it on your calendar. Vote early if at all possible.
  • If you are eligible and wish to vote by mail, start the vote by mail steps by requesting you ballot as soon as possible.

RESEARCH YOUR BALLOT

  • Use VOTE411 by looking up your address to see the races that will be on your ballot and find nonpartisan information about the candidates and proposals you will be voting on.
  • If you prefer a printed guide, find the League of Women Voters nonpartisan Voter Guides at public libraries and other locations around our area. If you have trouble finding a copy, please contact info@lwv-bayarea.org
  • Attend or view candidates forums hosted by the League of Women Voters or by other public-service organizations in our area.
