Voters Services

The Bay Area League is well known for our work in voter services – registering people to vote, distributing thousands of Voters Guides, hosting candidates forums, publishing VOTE411 and providing election information. Learn more about how you can volunteer:

VOLUNTEER WITH VOTERS SERVICES

The League is looking for volunteers to help with voter registration, Vote411, distribution of voters guides and the planning of candidate forums. To volunteer, check out the list of opportunities below for more information and who to contact.

VOTER REGISTRATION

LWV-Bay Area has a very active voter registration team focusing on registering high school seniors. We have ongoing relationships with high schools in Clear Creek ISD, Friendswood ISD, and Dickinson ISD. Before COVID, we were holding fall and spring voter registration drives at all of the high schools. Check out the voter registration video we produced for use in the high schools by clicking HERE.

Due to COVID-19, we have had to rethink many of our voter registration activities. We have a new take on voter registration - drive-thru events. League volunteers position themselves in stations in a parking lot and voters drive-thru in their cars with everyone staying socially distanced and safe.

We are also piloting a new voter registration initiative targeting residents moving in to apartments complexes. We plan to supply apartment managers with small packets containing voter registration applications and other informative materials that can be distributed to new tenants.

We encourage everyone interested in registering voters to become a volunteer deputy voter registrar (VDVR). Harris County offers online training with a reciprocal agreement with Galveston County. However, if you are not able to become one, you can be paired with a League VDVR as necessary.

Contact Judith Oppenheim at voterservice@lwvbayareatx.org to volunteer and learn about more opportunities. Or check out our Volunteer page to see some current opportunities.

VOTE411/VOTERS GUIDES

Join volunteers in preparing our online, interactive voters guide found at VOTE411.org so Bay Area voters will have a one-stop place for nonpartisan election information. Every election we need volunteers to research candidate contact information, develop questions for candidates to answer and follow up with candidates who have not responded. Contact Katie Austin at VOTE411.lwvbatx@gmail.com for questions or to volunteer.

LWV-Bay Area purchases thousands of printed voters guides prior to elections. League members distribute these voters guides to area libraries, city halls, churches and other public places. If you would like to be part of the voter guide distribution team, please email info@lwvbayareatx.org.

CANDIDATE FORUMS

The Bay Area League holds candidates’ forums for selected local municipal elections when invited by specific cities/entities in our area. Hearing from candidates on the key issues is a critical step in the voting process. If you would like to help with planning and/or logistics or to volunteer for such roles as timekeeper, screening committee, usher/runner, etc., please email info@lwvbayareatx.org.
