On Sat. Oct. 9, LWV-BA members and their guests will review upcoming proposals to amend the Texas Constitution. The Regular Session of the 87th Texas Legislature placed 8 propositions on the November 2, 2021 ballot. To be determined is whether any Special Sessions between now and then produce any more. On Oct. 9, we will learn what each proposition would do and its pros and cons. In the simplest terms, two of the current 8 amendment proposals grew out of COVID health-related restrictions. Two relate to property tax exemptions or limitations for certain groups. Two cover judicial eligibility requirements and conduct. One authorizes counties to finance development of infrastructure in underdeveloped areas, and another deals with raffles at rodeos. Details will follow in upcoming VOTERs. The meeting is timed so we inform ourselves prior to the start of early voting for the Nov. 2 election.
